Nicholas Bennett

I In today's fast-paced world, life can often feel overwhelming, relentless, and exhausting. The pressures of daily life and uncertainties can lead to a profound sense of mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion. Many individuals develop coping mechanisms—both internal and external—that, while intended to ease the burden, can sometimes lead to further mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual distress.

As someone who has personally experienced the trials of homelessness, addiction, and, ultimately, redemption, I deeply understand and empathize with those who find themselves struggling. My journey has equipped me with unique insights and compassion, enabling me to guide others from the darkness of despair to the light of hope, healing, and renewal.

About Me: A Personal Connection

When asked, “Who is Nicholas Bennett?” I find it challenging to distill my essence into words, especially as a recovering (13 years sober) alcoholic/addict living with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1 and Crohn’s Disease, while also embracing my identity as an avid geek-gamer-nerd. Yet, for those seeking to know more about me, here’s what I can share: I’ve walked in your shoes, faced similar challenges, and continued to navigate life’s complexities with resilience.

I believe in keeping things natural and adhering to principles like the Four Agreements. Honest and direct communication is at the core of my practice. Outside the office, I’m engaged in my recovery, maintaining a healthy gamer life, and indulging in creative pursuits like art. I approach life authentically, expressing frustration with a few choice words, laughing spontaneously, or advocating for those needing a voice.

My Approach to Therapy: A Partnership in Healing

As a therapist, my role is clear: to advise, warn, guide, teach, and listen. I use various therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamics, and Narrative Therapy. I believe in empowering you to lead your journey—this is your story, life, and experience. My approach is collaborative; I may ask questions or introduce new ideas, but ultimately, therapy is about you.

I am committed to providing a safe, non-judgmental space where you can express your thoughts, beliefs, and feelings freely. Your autonomy is always respected—my goal is to support you in finding your path, not to dictate it. Whether through traditional talk therapy, experiential sessions like walk-and-talks, or creative outlets like art or music, I tailor each session to your unique needs.

Who I Work With

I primarily work with individuals and couples/families aged 13 to 65+. My experience spans a broad spectrum of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder, personality disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder (Levels 1 and 2), ADHD, PTSD, grief, addiction, and LGBTQIA+ issues, among others.

What to Expect

In our sessions, whether in person (in the office or your home) or via telehealth, you lead with your thoughts and concerns, and I guide you toward your goals. Each session is tailored to your needs—sometimes, we’ll engage in free association, and other times, we may take an experiential approach. My aim is always to help you leave each session feeling a little more empowered, hopeful, and closer to the person you aspire to be.
